New to the Granquist Competition this year is a class for handbell choir. See our Classes and Judging page for more information about the available instrument classes.
As in 2007, the solo competition is divided into three levels: Olympic, Concert and Performing. The Olympic level is for outstanding students who have previously placed first either in Granquist or in similar competitions. There are cash prizes for the top three performers in this category. The Concert level is for accomplished musicians who have memorized their work and strive to become part of the Olympic level at some point. These participants receive a trophy for first, second and third place. The Performing level is for accomplished musicians who prefer not to memorize their selections. These particpants receive a first, second or third place ribbon if they place.
